One of the most commonly disputed issues in divorce cases and
family law matters is child support. In legal separations and
divorce cases, child support is an issue that can drag out proceedings and heighten
the stress and emotions involved. At Snyder Family Law, I am a Paoli family
law attorney highly experienced and qualified to represent you in matters
of child support. Although payments are typically made from the non-custodial
parent to the custodial parent, there are exceptions to the rule.
Navigating Child Support Guidelines
In Pennsylvania, child support is typically calculated based on the parents’
relative net incomes or earning capacities. The amount of child support
will depend on many factors including the number of children involved
and any unusual needs of the children. In cases of wealthy individuals,
the child support calculations can be complex. The support matter will
first be scheduled for a hearing before a Hearing Officer or, if it is
more complex, may be scheduled for a hearing before a Family Court Judge.
A Hearing Officer or Judge will consider the following:
The financial resources of the custodial parent
The financial resources of the non-custodial parent
The educational, extra-curricular and medical needs of the children
Any other unusual needs or factors
At Snyder Family Law, I am highly knowledgeable about the way that child
support payments are calculated. You can rely on me to provide you with
a thorough explanation of how your individual circumstances may factor
into a support arrangement. I will work with clients on child support
issues in matters of divorce, paternity, and in post-divorce decree modifications.
There are a number of circumstances where an adjustment may need to be
made, even after a child support order is in place. If you already have
an existing child support order and need help with requesting a modification,
turn to my firm.
